INTERNATIONAL OLD MASTER PAINTINGS GALLERY RETURNS TO AMSTERDAM after 100 years,

The Family Art-Dealing Business David Koetser Gallery specialising in fine old masters of the Dutch, Flemish and Italian schools will be returning to take up a premises in Amsterdam during May this year. The Koetser Family started their first Gallery in the Speigelgracht before the first World War and remained there until Henri Koetser moved his whole family to London in 1923 where his three sons went into partnership. The firm expanded when offices were opened in New York, leading to the establishment of worldwide contacts among private collectors and museums throughout the USA. In 1967 the gallery opened at its present location in Zurich, where the resources of the firm, now the third generation, have been concentrated. David Koetser, explains “ We have been seeing a strong growth over the last two to three years with new collectors entering the market for old masters in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany and we feel that we can service these clients more easily from our new premises in Amsterdam. There we will have new acquisitions on view for our clients to see more conveniently. Annemarie van der Hoeven will run the Amsterdam office, she has been with us for more than seven years and is very able to continue our expansion in this chosen field. I expect to be regularly in the Netherlands. This is a very exciting step for our business.” Koetser is a major dealer in Old Masters and Founder Member of The European Fine Art Fair (Tefaf) in Mastricht. Almost every important U.S.Museum has purchased from the Koetsers and many European Museums and Private Collectors. The Gallery has handled great paintings by Rubens, Frans Hals, Aelbert Cuyp, Jan van der Cappelle (now Getty Museum). A painting by Jan Lievens sold last year is now on loan to the National Gallery, Washington. Koetser is presently sending on loan a newly discovered painting by Salomon de Bray to ‘Painting Family: the De Brays Master Painters of 17th Century Holland’ at the Frans Hals Museum , till June 22nd. The Koetsers like to present paintings to the public. Exhibitions and lectures have been annual events and Old Masters from the Koetser Foundation may be seen in the Zurich museum ‘Kunsthaus’.
