Mediation

Koetser Gallery mediates the acquisition of a wonderful Brueghel Landscape, 1610 to The National Gallery of Art Washington.

This remarkable Acquisition by the National Gallery finalised at the end of 2020 of an outstanding Extensive Wooded Landscape by Jan Brueghel the Elder was made possible through the mediation of David Koetser. It marks another great success in our research and consequent amicable settlement of a complicated holocaust claim on behalf of one of our clients who consigned to us this painting for sale.

-In recent years, laws regarding works of art traded during WWII have been revised in the United States, The Netherlands and a number of other countries. As a result, collectors can find themselves unknowingly and unwillingly to be in the possession of a painting sold 'under duress'.

-In todays' transparent art-market it is impossible and wrong to trade a painting tainted by a war-provenance. At Koetser Gallery we are happy to advise and assist clients in such situations reach a friendly settlement resolving any claim to a painting with the heirs or the relevant foundation.
